Greetings from Sin City! I’m here for the third time in 60 days – And If I told you this same stat 10 years ago, I’d be face down in a bowl of pedialyte right now. Luckily, these trips have all been for filming purposes with minimal shenanigans between scenes. I’m here again because we got rained out on my second trip. The goal was to go inside the tunnels that run below the Strip and meet the people who call them home. 600 miles of flood control passageways run clear across the city, and there’s an entire population of people who live within them. So, wish me luck, tomorrow will be my second attempt to go down and meet them. In the meantime, the first two episodes from the Vegas series are now live! The first is live on my main channel - Day in the Life of a Drag Queen and the second is on the @GarethEats food channel; eating at what’s said to be the Best Buffet in Las Vegas (this link is an exclusive first look before it goes live tomorrow). If you’ve already seen the episodes, I’d love for you to reply to this email and let me know what you thought! COOL THING IN TRAVELCan I ask you a question? Do you use Pinterest for travel inspiration and/or planning? Pinterest says, “With over one billion travel-related searches and over 10 billion travel saves in one year, Pinterest is full of ideas to get the most out of your next trip.” I don’t personally use Pinterest a ton (and I probably should start), but I am very intrigued by the “Summer 2024 Travel Report” they just released – it’s based on all the popular travel search trends on their platform. If you’re into data like I am, this is a cool summary to skim through. It lets you know what spots to go, which ones to avoid, and a few strange analytics too. For example, I guess “exploring abandoned places” is up 230% since last year - Does this mean I should make more ghost town videos!? RESOURCE OF THE WEEKSummer is coming and that means US National Parks will be a hot mess of family fun. I have such a conflicted relationship with making videos about these popular outdoor adventures… On one hand, they’re absolutely gorgeous destinations that should be loved and cherished by responsible explorers. On the other hand, it’s inevitable that the more I showcase their beauty, the more people will go and put a strain on the ecosystem, and that sucks. Park by Park, they’re getting better at implementing restrictions and reservations to minimize the damage summer crowds have. If you plan on taking the Griswold family truckster to one of the 63 US National Parks, this USA Today Article provides a lot more information about what you need to plan ahead for – and where. *** That’s it for this week. Speaking of summer travel plans, do you have anything fun planned? Cheers to new horizons, Gareth |
